WEDNESDAY 8 FEBRUARY, 2012 - THREE "HEATHER, HADAR HEART THINGS!"

"Oh happy day! Today I got to do three "heart" things!

First, our ladies split up on our walk this morning, three walked the more challenging route and three (including me) the less challenging one, which became a circular route and we ended up walking with the children on their way to school. Three girls and a boy...mischievous to say the least, right real copy-cats.....of course, it was just what I needed! Amber Belle, your Gigi got to play "on your marks, get set, go!" with these four little people. We had one race, then I showed them how to do the stand-start, not down on the knees, the second time round. With the English words we set off. Boy can that boy run! But you will be proud of me, in my new exercised lean! body machine I set off, only just winning the race......okay so we came tie! The Dads & Mums had smiles on their faces, so did those cheeky little people and the other ladies probably couldn't believe what they were seeing.....little did they know what was coming at lunch time. Not even I knew!

#2 My first lunch date with the ladies since I've been here. We all go out for lunch on Wednesdays. Now you must understand on this Mad Magical Island where I live, the languages spoken vary from one gathering to the next, but you are sure to hear French, Malagasy, English and Afrikaans. When lunch was served a comment was passed about saying grace or a blessing. So I reckoned in for a penny, in for a pound and piped up: "I can sing you a blessing in a language you don't know!!!" The response was immediately enthusiastic so I opened my mouth and sang, in a tune I made up for the benefit of my grandson Zacc, when I was looking after him in London: "Baruch Atah Adonai.....the Hebrew blessing for the bread....(was I ever so chuffed, with my heart bursting!) Now for those who know me, that truly was a moment, my singing voice is not the greatest!! I finished to exclamations of: "What language is that?" and thus in a small way Israel appeared on the scene and I was unexpectedly able to bless my G-d!

#3 I've discovered pumpkin, similar to ours back home. More like our hubbard squash. Marieta gave me one and so our stew tonight will be accompanied by "boere pampoen" (no English translation for that!) YAY!!! I did mention to Hilton the other night that our stew would be perfect if I could have pumpkin with it! Yummy.....what a superbly, supercalafragilisticexpaladocious day it has been.
