METAMORPHOSIS - Tuesday 4th June, 2013

Okay so here's the thing:
METAMORPHOSIS: Complete change of character, appearance, circumstances. Transformation.
Synonyms: mutation, change, alteration.
Antonym: stagnation
Transition: alteration of circumstances/surroundings
Change: something made different

To coin a new word, I propose that I am a "metamorphosi!" Flitting, like a butterfly (which is referred to as the adult stage, the most beautiful stage) from island to city and back to island.
To accomplish this successfully thought processes undergo change. Sometimes quite violent change in the sense that moving from abject poverty and simplicity to burgeoning shopping malls and all things associated with affluence attacks my sensibilities and leaves me, as it were, hanging in the air!
"Adapt or die" sounds so melodramatic! So I adapt. I change. I shop. I indulge. And ponder quietly in my heart, why?

The road in the distance is the one we normally travel into town. To the left the lake just in front of our Green Leaves Village. Tranquil.

When I see these mountains, that surround our town, I know I'm home on this Mad Magical Island!

The scenic route into Taolagnaro was our choice on our first shopping trip back from a three week R&R for Hilton and a ten week break for me.

Along the beach on the quad, stopping off atop a huge sand dune to capture the breath taking view spanning the harbour, bay & some crabs!

There's something about a goat on a wall.........

We whizzed passed Jeanette and Sylvia on our way into the centre of town, with flailing arms and shouts of recognition, "salama, salama!" they found us outside the "Purple" shop!

My skin tone suggests a long absence from the island!!

Jeanette wearing my "look like an alien" helmet! They made me feel so welcome.

After our grocery shop, which is decidedly less affluent than Port Elizabeth or London, we head home via Chez Bernard's for lunch.

We have yet another perfect view!

My morphing into the island girl has begun. I've swopped the mall for the market, the car for the quad, frenzy for calm.

I've slithered out of one skin and into another. I've adapted. I've changed. I've made the transition!
