And so the adventure begins.....cool bag packed with snacks including homemade bread cheese sandwiches and homemade lemon muffins amongst other yummy things! We check in with QMM (mine) security first. There are two "security" road blocks on our way. Which is good, they know you are traveling on the road so if you go missing at least they'll come looking for you, you hope!!The "security" consists of a boom gate, little hut and two security guards to whom we wave with a "salama!" It is not far, approximately 23 to 25 kms away. But boy! its a road you cannot afford to fall asleep on, especially on a quad bike!! Most of the road is the light red, white of clay soil. They travel this way in the 4x4 bakkies. I'm rather glad we were on the quad.
Don't be deceived by this photo.........
This is a mild looking section of the road! The scenery constantly changes, as always on this mad magical island.
Like this........
Most of the time it is quite breathtaking, allowing one to savour the moment and perhaps take a stunning photograph.
The little mountains are never far away.......
One of our biggest challenges was this section of the soil eroded road, climbing upwards. This section, little did we know, would later become forever etched in our memories, along with much laughter whenever this story is told!!
The view from the top looking down. "Not so bad or difficult," you may comment. Our sentiments exactly after you see what we did do later on! Hold this thought as you continue to read!
Soon we were reaching our destination. Thank goodness. I wonder if the extra kilos I have gained have mysteriously disappeared with all the shaking and bumping!
It was truly, truly all worth while.....Suddenly the scenery starts changing again.......
We met this amazing tree on the way.
Certainly a story lurking here.
The arrival......
Lands End, unsullied by progress, tourism or consumerism. We were the only visitors.
Across the way, a quaint little village with some local fishermen. Imagine living this simple, uncomplicated life and waking up to this breathless scenery every morning! Being a witness to the changing moods of the ocean and sky.
We found some crabs.....we told them not to worry, don't rush away, we won't eat you!
We sat underneath this tree for our snack lunch and some Sabbath fellowship. There is no better inspiration for spirited discussion around G-d's Word than experiencing His awesome creation while doing so.
Too soon and it was time to make our way home, but not before we did a little rock climbing with our quad. Sorry there are no actual photos of the climb, reason being I was clinging to Hiltons very sexy back, leaning forward, going up!!! We did however attempt to show you with these photos where we were climbing. I was very impressed. The quad was amazing!!! So was my husband....chuckle, chuckle!
On the way up.....gorgeous view. And with that, we retraced our tracks and started for home.
Remember the part about memories and a story to chuckle over? This is how it went down!
Pun intended!! Remember the challenge up hill? Piece of cake going down hill. We were of course seasoned quad bikers after our rock climbing exercise, right?
Somehow, traversing the tricky down part of eroded "cliffy" the front right hand wheel got caught and before we could say "Bob's your uncle" we made very close friends with the earth!
But a quicker recovery you've never seen in your life! Hilton lifted up the quad like Superman, I arose and promptly walked to the top of the hill to take a photo amidst some quite hysterical laughter!
While you peruse the photo, cast your eyes to the sand just a way behind the quad, in line with Hilton's right foot. That's it! The tumble happened there and not a minute too late 'cos you can see some men rounding the corner.
In the hysterically funny moment all I could think of was to ask them to have their photo taken. I was secretly hoping we looked normal. While clicking away I even thought to remind everyone to take a look at the man's abs, for goodness sake!!! (I can hear the laughter!)
He shook my hand.....I was brave, no trembling, all was clearly back to normal. As we rode away more people were making their way up that "cliffy!" Whew!
As we rode through the village it was during siesta time......many were in their little houses, out of the heat of the day.....
And us? I guess this is what we were doing.......
For those who wish to visit Lokaro here is how you get there!
P.S. My daughter Kelly made the heart......
