Eventually I'm through customs and wait patiently or rather apprehensively for Hilton. He has brought with him a computer part for Piacentini and so has to declare it. That is another story waiting to be told!
I'm inundated by baggage porters all wanting to help me! Fortunately, Hilton has prepared me for this phenomon and I smile sweetly and attempt to say "no thanks!" The driver from the Hotel is coming to fetch us, thank goodness! Needless to say four porters did accompany us to the vehicle but only one got a tip!
The absence of women other than airport staff was very evident. I was however approached by a lady with a baby for a "dollar".
The route to the Hotel, Au Bois Vert, is not far. There is a certain vibe that I want to describe as "Carribbean"! Even though I'v never been there!
The people are short in stature, compared to us South Africans, women seem to be quite "petite" ( I was described as that, Once upon a time....*sigh*)
The weather is a little cool in the evening and early morning here in Antananarivo, Tanna, for short. But it quickly heats up.
My very first Malagasy word I've learnt is: sugar - siramamy (don't pronounce the 'y') sira-mam (see-ra).
Then I learn how to say thank you - misaotza - pronounced mi-soucha as in ouch!
Maybe these two words reflect my heart! Thankful, grateful for this amazing opportunity.
